The old name of the city of Varna is Odessos , which literally means town on water. The lively, modern Varna was first mentioned in chronicles as a settlement during the 8th century.

To testify for the centuries-long history of the region the treasure from the Chalcholitic Necropolis, exhibiting the oldest gold in the world is considered the peak of the archaeological revelations available for visitors in the Archaeological museum of the town.

As you further explore Varna you come across landmarks that date back centuries ago. However, the atmosphere in the town could be easily described as cheerful, modern, even giggling.
