Renaissance Tours attended the International Congress on World Civilizations and Creative Tourism held in Sofia in the period of 29.11 – 01.12.2016. The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, HRH Dana Firas, President of Petra National Trust, Ambassador Michael Christidis, Secretary General, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and many delegates from countries such as: Spain, Iraq, Kenya, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Thailand, Cambodia, etc gathered to share their experience gained in proactive practices in tourism development. We couldn’t have missed out event with such an importance. Guest lecturers, moderators and experts managed to address important issues such as tangible and intangible heritage preservation, as well as the introduction of new and interactive forms of tourism activities. The congress itself started in the mood of snowy winter and loads of fun. The presentations and talks could also be described as dynamic, intriguing and quite witty in line with the atmosphere. However, the only thing not quite clear for us was the term “creative tourism”. We have managed to communicate our questions and join the discussion sessions. It is our concern that we are constantly introducing new terms and we start to inform all stakeholders before outlining specific characteristics and being able to define it wisely. May be in the future the term will evolve and find its particular features. We will definitely follow this up. Otherwise, we would like to extend our gratitude for the opportunity to attend such a forum and exchange know-how, information and contacts.
